Turning Five in the Midst of Change: Kindergarten, Special Education, and Your Rights as a Parent
Get ready for the Turning 5 process – educate yourself early!
Does your child receive preschool special education services? Will he or she enter kindergarten in the fall of 2022?
What kind of elementary program will be right for your child? What are your rights and options?
On Monday, April 19, Abbie Smith of Skyer Law and I will offer a joint webinar, hosted by the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, aimed at families of kids starting kindergarten in fall 2022. We will be joined by neuropsychologists Dr. Laura Tagliareni and Dr. David Salsberg of PALS (Pediatric Assessment Learning and Support). Together, we will cover topics such as:
- Learning your educational options, public and private
- Obtaining the best evaluations and guidance
- Finding an appropriate kindergarten program
- Understanding your legal rights
- Advocating and creating an IEP for your child at your Turning 5 meeting
